Mytime Active

Mytime Active plans to invest £2.5 million over the next two years in its six leisure centres in the London Borough of Bromley. Mytime Active prides itself on having facilities for the whole family and its play areas 'Buzz Zones' are a hugely successful part of the Mytime Active leisure offering with over 20,000 children per month for the last ten years enjoying active play in a safe, fun environment. As part of its continuous improvement process, Mytime Active regularly seeks feedback from our members and guests. Based on this feedback, it has invested £300,000 across three of its leisure sites; the Pavilion Leisure Centre in Bromley, the Spa at Beckenham, and the Walnuts Leisure Centre in Orpington.

BH Live

A partnership project to improve the public health and wellbeing facilities at Stokewood Leisure Centre in Bournemouth has reached a key milestone and is on track to complete later this year.
Stokewood is managed by BH Live in partnership with Bournemouth Borough Council.

Sport Aberdeen

Sport Aberdeen have launched a new initiative at the Linx Ice Arena specifically designed to open up ice skating to a wider group of people across the North-East. The new Relaxed Skating sessions are run in partnership with Me Too!, the inclusive magazine for children with additional support needs in Aberdeen City and Shire. Sessions are open to skaters of all ages and abilities with a focus on encouraging people with additional support needs to try the sport.

Oldham Community Leisure

Oldham Community Leisure has made two new appointments to its team with Glenn Tolan joining as head of facilities and Steve Jacklin as operations/maintenance manager.
In his new role, Tolan is charged with delivering continuous improvement in OCL’s facilities; developing staff teams and providing an excellent service for customers.
“I have a real passion for this industry and I relish the opportunity of making a real difference to the quality of life for the residents of Oldham. I look forward to working with the teams at each of our sites to ensure we deliver the best possible services, programmes and facilities for our customers,” says Tolan.
Steve Jacklin joins OCL from Wythenshawe Forum where he was technical manager. Starting as an apprentice at Manchester City Council, Jacklin has 34 years’ experience in the leisure sector working for a variety of operators.

Active Nation

Buggy Mums is the latest fitness initiative from Active Nation and ParkLives to hit Southampton for local mums. ParkLives is funded by Coca Cola GB and its activity initiatives have been delivered across Southampton by Active Nation since May 2016. Together the two organisations pursue new opportunities to get active in the local community, which are free to access and designed to suit the whole family.

 

GLL

If you love rugby, there is a new Walking Ruby initiative running in leisure centres across Cumbria, open to both men and women. The course is running in seven centres throughout the county; all managed by GLL on behalf of local Cumbria Councils. Funding is available to run a total of 140 sessions plus a Walking Rugby Festival at the end of the programme, following a joint funding bid from GLL, Active Cumbria and Rugby League Cares to Sport England. Additional partners include Age UK who are also actively promoting the health benefits of the scheme.

Jubilee Hall Trust

Jubilee Hall Trust Chief Executive, Phil Rumbelow, has joined the ukactive board as a Non-Executive Director alongside Adrian Packer, Sarah Kendall and Peter Bonfield. The new Directors have been drawn from several different sectors and their varying backgrounds will broaden the experience of the wider Board and underpin the far-reaching ambitions of ukactive. As Chair of the ukactive Membership Council, Phil will serve as the voice of the membership base on the ukactive Board, ensuring members are keenly represented in all areas of discussion. Phil will also play a leading role in helping the Board to meet key sector challenges, such as the skills agenda, workforce development and building a winning culture.

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles

Gym goers at Ashton Leisure Centre are set to receive a major boost thanks to a £2.8million investment to improve the facility. Existing members are set to benefit from a brand new 400 square metre gym, facilitating 80 stations with Technogym equipment, as well as a group exercise studio and indoor cycling studio which will form part of an extension to the current building, alongside brand new sauna, steam room and additional changing facilities. A state of the art synthetic pitch and multi-use games area will also be installed to enable group and community bookings. Working with Warden Construction, Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles will lead on the delivery of the refurbishment, with managing director, Peter Burt adding: "Much like the facilities at Howe Bridge and Leigh leisure centres, the development at Ashton will improve our leisure and wellbeing offer by modernising and expanding the range of opportunities available. We have a very loyal customer base at Ashton who already enjoy the facilities, and through this major refurbishment we will be providing a more rounded and complete experience hopefully encouraging many more people to get active and healthy."

Sport Aberdeen

Sport Aberdeen has unveiled plans to open what is thought to be the UK's first dedicated virtual gym. The "virtual activity zone" is part of extensive modernisation works taking place at the Jesmond Sports Centre in the Bridge of Don area of Aberdeen. Opening in early January 2017, 3D camera sensors, wireless technologies and interactive screens will be used to encourage more people to take part in sport and physical activity. The development works also include a expanded state-of-the-art 70 station gym, an immersive spin studio, a new aerobics studio and a complete refresh to the building. Revealing the plans, Sport Aberdeen today said the overhaul underlines its commitment to creating opportunities, inspiring people and changing lives through sport and physical activity.

Halo Leisure

At the end of 2016 Halo Leisure announced it had been selected as the partner to manage Highworth Recreation Centre in Wiltshire, which gives the Herefordshire-based social enterprise a listing of 20 centres. Halo already manages centres in Shropshire, Herefordshire and Bridgend County Borough and has invested millions in recent years on a programme of refurbishments. "Highworth had been looking for the right partner for some time and we are so proud to have been chosen for the role," says Scott Rolfe, Halo's CEO. "They have a great history serving the community and we're excited about developing the centre – increasing the range of activities and investing in the facilities here – in the coming years."

Fusion Lifestyle

Fusion Lifestyle expanded its offering into a new county this month, having officially signed up to operate leisure centres for South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council. The partnership between Fusion Lifestyle and the Councils will operate for a period of 25 years and will deliver investment and development of the leisure centres. Peter Kay, Fusion Lifestyle's Chief Executive Officer said: "We operate 93 diverse sports and leisure facilities across the UK and it is a privilege to take over the running of these incredibly popular and important sites in Devon. This will be an exciting new chapter for Fusion's team and we look forward to welcoming everyone to experience what we offer."

LiveWire Warrington

Warringtonians are the most active people in the North West according to Sport England. The latest figures from the national body's Active People Survey reveal that Warrington is the top performing area in the region for the first time in terms of how many adults take part in sport. The survey measured participation from October 2015 to September 2016 and showed that 43.1% of over 16s in Warrington took part in at least 30 minutes of physical activity at least once a week – an increase of 7% on last year.

Emma Hutchinson, managing director of LiveWire, said: "It's fantastic that Warrington has topped the regional chart for the first time following significant increases in adult participation. This builds on the consistently strong performance we have seen in participation among young people for some time. Becoming the most active local authority in the region was one of the headline aims of our last business plan, and it is testament to the hard work of staff at LiveWire and our partner organisations to have achieved this."

Active Tameside

Curzon Ashton FC and Active Tameside have embarked on a new partnership aimed at providing more opportunity for the people of Tameside. This comes on the heels of Curzon Ashton’s success at both the Pride of Tameside Sports Awards and the Greater Manchester Sports Awards where they won Club of the Year as well as moving into the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.

Brentwood Leisure Trust

The Brentwood Centre was delighted to host Aquafest16 on Sunday 13th November to officially open the new accessible changing village in the swimming pool area. The Royal Foundation's Team Essex Coach Core volunteers worked throughout the day to support all the events including Scuba Diving, Water Polo, Aqua Zumba and much much more. The inclusive event was funded by a Get Active For All grant from Active Essex, to increase the number of disabled people across Greater Essex taking part in Sport and Physical Activity.

 

Edinburgh Leisure

The life changing work with children in care carried out through Edinburgh Leisure's Looked After and Active programme has been captured on a powerful new video created to raise awareness of the initiative.
The programme uses the power of physical activity and sport to improve the lives of children and young people in care.
Edinburgh Leisure runs over 20 'Active Communities' projects that use physical activity to improve and, in many cases, transform the lives of people affected by health conditions, disabilities and poverty.
'Looked After & Active', one of Edinburgh Leisure's Active Communities projects has enabled 1,300 children and young people in care to get active and play.
The project gives children in care free access to Edinburgh Leisure's venues and gets them involved in coach-led activities like learning to swim. It teaches them new skills, builds confidence and allows them to enjoy active, healthy childhoods.

GLL

Waltham Forest's first ever, public sector spa is now up and running within the new Waltham Forest Feel Good Centre on Chingford Road.
A joint venture between GLL and Waltham Forest Council, Spa Experience at Waltham Forest has been designed to offer an easily accessible, luxury spa experience at the heart of a state-of-the-art community facility.

 

HighLife Highland

High Life Highland is delighted that the Aviemore Community Sport Hub has won the award for Community Hub, Club or School of the Year at the Team Scotland Scottish Sports Awards 2016. The Aviemore Community Sport hub has become the biggest in Highland and now supports 25 clubs that between them have over 2600 members and 160 deliverers.

BH Live

Portsmouth's leisure facilities are set for more than £1million investment and improvements after Portsmouth City Council awarded BH Live a 10-year contract to manage six venues in the city.
Management of Mountbatten Leisure Centre, Portsmouth Gymnastics Centre, Portsmouth Tennis Centre, Eastney Swimming Pool, Wimbledon Park Sports Centre and Charter Community Sports Centre will transfer to cultural trust BH Live on 1 February 2017.

Active Tameside

Pure Innovations and Active Tameside are encouraging employers to learn more about what they can do to support people with disabilities into employment. Pure Innovations offered a Disability Awareness in the Workplace workshop at Active Medlock, one of the most successful sites for their Supported Internship. The training aims to give attendees a unique and insightful window into issues faced by people with disabilities and additional needs when striving to find sustainable paid employment as well as challenges faced in the workplace.

Active Nation

Active Nation is celebrating 25,000 sign-ups to their tailor-made nutrition app, Active Nutrition, engineered by the charity to out-run cookie-cutter, online weight-loss plans. Launched in November last year and backed by one of the most accomplished team's in UK fitness, more than 20 years'experience in sport and exercise has gone into designing a nutritional solution, which combats many of the challenges to eating well.

 

LiveWire Warrington

Three new Friday night sports clubs have launched in Warrington to try and reduce anti-social behaviour (ASB). The ‘Doorstep Sports Clubs’ will provide a mix of football, tennis and group fitness activities for youngsters in Birchwood, Orford and Great Sankey. They will run between 6-9pm every Friday night - a peak time for ASB call outs across the town. The activities are being run by LiveWire in partnership with Cheshire Police and anyone aged nine-17 can take part.

Sport Aberdeen

The Beach Leisure Centre has been shortlisted for a prestigious fitness industry award, beating off strong competition to make the finals. The Sport Aberdeen venue has been shortlisted in the Regional Gym of the Year (Scotland) category at the National Fitness Awards, an annual event which recognises excellence and achievement in gyms throughout the country.

Jubilee Hall Trust

Jubilee Hall Trust’s second annual fun run series took place on Saturday 17th September on Hampstead Heath. This year, the ‘Run For Your Life’ series included 2k, 5k and 10k options so that everyone could join in. And they did! Participants ranged in age from just 5 years old to 74, and this year, the female runners outnumbered the men!

Impulse Leisure

Impulse Leisure has launched a new app giving its customers the chance to book their favourite classes and activities, track their progress and get the latest offers, all from their mobile device. The Impulse Leisure App gives customers quick and easy access to six of Impulse's Leisure centres - Chanctonbury, Lancing Manor and Southwick in West Sussex, and Belhus Park, Blackshots and Corringham in Essex.

Inverclyde Leisure

Inverclyde Leisure have recently refurbished Ravenscraig Activity Centre. The centre was commissioned to be closed due to its age and condition, but Inverclyde Leisure then worked with partners to devise a strategy to remodel the facility by introducing a Large Budget Gym, X Height, extensive soft play and a café.  Kieron Vango, Chief Executive, said: “The refurbishment programme has helped grow the business and generate local jobs within the area. The centre is a great addition to our portfolio and helps build on previous projects from our business plan..."

Sandwell Leisure Trust

A keep fit enthusiast has battled back from being paralysed from the neck down to become Sandwell Leisure Trust's (SLT) first disabled instructor. Wendy Hall has been taken on at the centre where she did her 'Instructability' training and placement – SLT'S Portway Lifestyle Centre in Oldbury – which is a disability centre of excellence for health and fitness, but also one of only a handful of facilities in the UK to be Inclusive Fitness Initiative 'Excellent' accredited. She now runs Wendy's Wednesdays there, whereby regular members, as well as those in wheelchairs and with mixed abilities, enjoy Inclusive Circuits together and have built up a real family and social ethos. Her 1-2-1 sessions with disabled and able-bodies members have also increased due to customer recommendation and she has recently taken on a regular ViPR class (a weighted workout) while next up on her expanding list of activities are Aquafit classes in the pool.

Mytime Active

Mytime Active's Ann Wilbourn has scooped one of the leisure industry's top national awards for outstanding achievement by creating "a lasting legacy in the community that inspires more people, to be more active, more often." Ann won the 'Spirit of Flame' at the Flame Awards ceremony in Telford organized by UKActive, the leading industry voice for the leisure sector with a mission to 'make more people, more active, more often'. Head of Marketing and Communications Lorraine Stack said: "We are so proud of Ann and her team of Primetime 'buddies'. The team have an infectious passion for physical activity and know how to create environments and experiences that everyone regardless of age, ability or fitness level can participate in.

Active Stirling

Active Stirling are providing free access to the facilities at The PEAK for looked after children and young people within Stirling for the duration of the 8 weeks summer holidays. The age range will be for those aged 5 – 25 years and will include those who are currently, or have in the past, been looked after by the local authority. This scheme will create the opportunity for all of those young people to enjoy unlimited use of swimming, skating, climbing, racquet sports, gym and fitness classes throughout the summer with the new PEAK ALLIN membership.

Brentwood Leisure

Free Fitness in Mind activities were launched at Brentwood Leisure on 11 July. Fitness In Mind™ is an award winning initiative designed to promote, encourage and provide physical activity as an aid to mental wellbeing. Sport and physical activity are proven to boost self-esteem, reduce stress, and help prevent or reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety, but getting active when you're not feeling great isn't easy. Low motivation, social anxiety, self-image issues, uncertainty regarding exercise, and financial expense, can all hinder us from using this vital and hugely enjoyable life tool. All the classes are run by specially selected, qualified instructors, and friendly Peer-Support Volunteers, giving expert tuition, emotional support, and guidance towards other useful organisations.

 

Fusion Lifestyle

Thousands of people are being encouraged to get active outdoors this summer with the launch of Fusion Lifestyle's Great Outdoors Campaign. The national campaign, taking place at all Fusion Lifestyle sport and fitness facilities, will see thousands of outdoor activities added to the timetable during the summer months. Activities will include boot camps, small group training, kayaking, swimming and a number of new wet and dry side 'Fusion' classes.

Tonbridge & Malling Leisure Trust

Tonbridge & Malling Leisure Trust has launched a new community fund to benefit local people and voluntary organisations committed to increasing health and wellbeing in Tonbridge and Malling.
TMLT has established the new tmactive Community Fund to assist local projects dedicated to encouraging physical activity. Derived from the trust's annual profits, the Community Fund will award grants to individuals, formally constituted sports clubs (non-commercial) and voluntary community organisations.

Jubilee Hall Trust

For the second summer, Jubilee Hall Trust (JHT) will be running an Energy Club at a school in Camden. Thanks to a funding grant of £4700 from Camden council, JHT will be staffing the innovative Active Space at Torriano Primary School and putting on a wide range of activities during July and August.

Sandwell Leisure Trust

Sandwell Leisure Trust has been awarded the highest possible accolade in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) 2016 Health and Safety Awards. The Black Country-based company has landed the coveted President's Award (10 consecutive Golds) - and is the first Leisure Trust nationwide to achieve this distinction.

Active Nation

Active Nation has launched its new staff benefits programme to its team of nearly 1,000 employees.

The charity, which over recent years has invested significant resources into the development and training of its teams, has launched this new initiative to further demonstrate its commitment and appreciation to the role its team play in persuading the nation to be active. As a way of saying thank you, the charity has invited all of its team members – both full and part time – to join its new free 'Brilliant People' programme where they'll be able to access discounts and cash back offers for many leading retailers, travel companies, restaurants and other organisations.

Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure & Culture

Magna Vitae launched their new team of Lifestyle Consultants at the beginning of June.

The move sees their health and fitness teams combine to provide a holistic approach to lifestyle improvement. The new team of Lifestyle Consultants will offer advice and support to individuals wanting to make a change and provide engaging, social and fun activities to increase motivation and long term adherence to a healthier lifestyle.

Sport Aberdeen

Sport Aberdeen marked the opening of its new modernised gyms with a red ribbon launch. The gyms at four of Sport Aberdeen’s popular venues have been dramatically upgraded with brand new high performance strength and training equipment. The Beach Leisure Centre, Alex Collie Sports Centre, Kincorth Sports Centre and Peterculter Sports Centre have also all been redecorated, with new flooring in place.

Gravesham Community Leisure

GCLL is the prestigious, National winner of the YMCA Employer of the Year award in the category of small to medium business.

The award was presented to Managing Director Rob Swain and Head of HR Helen Lake at the House of Commons in the esteemed presence of the Government's apprenticeship 'champion', Nadhim Zahawi, Shadow BIS Secretary Angela Eagle MP and Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan MP along with other business leaders, learners and supporters from across the UK.

Wychavon Leisure

The Droitwich Spa Lido, one of Britain’s last remaining inland, open air saltwater pools will be open this summer from 28th May – 4th September. The water is heated to 24°c and the lido now boasts a sun terrace, café and children’s wet play area with water cannons and fountains.

Freedom Leisure

Freedom Leisure has been chosen to join the second phase of the new Dementia Friendly Swimming initiative which starts on May 19, 2016. The Dementia Friendly Swimming project is a collaborative venture developed by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) with funding and support from Sport England and the Department of Health Innovation, Excellence and Strategic Development Fund.

LiveWire Warrington

Orford Jubilee Neighbourhood Hub and Birchwood Tennis and Leisure Complex have been named centres of excellence for the work they do to support disabled people by the English Federation of Disability Sport.
The leisure centres, which are run by LiveWire, are the only two facilities in the North West to have been awarded the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) Mark at the top assessment level of 'excellent'.

Pelican Centre

A new gym and community hall have opened at The Pelican Centre in Tyldesley thanks to a £384,000 grant from Wigan Council. The facility was opened by Nick Caplin – Director of Participation from the ASA and guests included MP Andy Burnham.

Active Tameside

Active Tameside have partnered with Tameside Council, New Charter Group, Lifeline, Age UK Tameside, Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, and Sports Tours International to bring you a day of local walks before the first leg of the event on Thursday 16th June. There are a variety of walks for all fitness levels including walking the route of the Cross Trail 10k due to take place later that day, Walk and Talks and Walking for Health.

Soll Leisure 

Charity leisure management company, Soll Leisure, is pleased to announce that they have recruited two 'Soll Active Coordinators' to support the company's charitable objectives and encourage local communities to lead healthy, active lifestyles in Oxfordshire and Kent.

Jubilee Hall Trust

Jubilee Hall Trust will be staging its first charity fun run of the year at Southwark Park on Sunday 5th June. A 2k will also be available.

 

 

 

GLL

The London Aquatics Centre, operated by GLL on behalf of the London Legacy Development Corporation, has become the first Olympic venue to achieve an 'excellent' rating in a tough assessment by Sport England's leading national quality scheme, Quest.

Active Tameside

Active Tameside are celebrating the chance to inspire more people to be physically active after the announcement of Tameside's Blueprint for Sustainability. The £20m investment from Tameside Council and Active Tameside includes a brand new Tameside Wellness Centre in Denton, a new 25m swimming pool at Active Hyde, the redevelopment of Dukinfield into a state-of-the-art health and fitness centre and a play centre at Longdendale. 

North Country Leisure

Newcastle's Centre for Sport is set to benefit from £1.3m of investment into its facilities and services this year. The funding will see the centre's existing gym area refurbished and extended and the introduction of state-of-the-art Technogym fitness equipment. A new multi-purpose fitness studio will be created, along with a new look reception area and customer café, all under the management of charitable leisure operator North Country Leisure (NCL).

Tonbridge & Malling Leisure Trust

Luxury spa facilities have launched at Larkfield Leisure Centre following a £400,000 upgrade. Operated by Tonbridge & Malling Leisure Trust on behalf of Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council, Larkfield's health suite has undergone a comprehensive redevelopment to bring the latest in spa and wellbeing experiences to the popular centre in Aylesford.

Fusion Lifestyle

Efforts to help the community of Hounslow adopt a healthier way of life are coming to fruition thanks to a partnership between London Borough of Hounslow and Fusion Lifestyle. A new £13.5m facility, Heston Pools and Fitness, is now open after several years of planning.

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles

A variety of exciting new leisure facilities are coming to Selby when Summit Indoor Adventure opens in May. The £5m centre will be managed by Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (formerly Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, WLCT).

East Renfrewshire Culture & Leisure

Sports fans in East Renfrewshire will benefit from an investment of more than a million pounds from sportscotland. East Renfrewshire Culture and Leisure won the funding from sportscotland to promote sport to pupils through their Active Schools programme and stage competitions in a wide range of sports.

Valley Leisure

Water safety concerns for children have prompted a Hampshire leisure firm to add a new lifesaving level to its swim school. The new Kayaking Rookie Rescue lifesaving course introduced at Andover Leisure Centre by Valley Leisure is aimed at helping children – and adults – to not only stay safe when they're swimming but to cope with dangers when they are out on boats and kayaks too.

 

Tees Active

A new attraction recently opened alongside Tees Barrage International White Water Centre.
Tees Active worked alongside Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council to deliver the £1m Air Trail project alongside the £4.6M regenerated water sports facility at the Tees Barrage.

GLL

Hollyoaks actress and qualified fitness instructor Jennifer Metcalfe launched GLL's Better Bike Challenge on 1 March - Britain's biggest indoor bike ride for Sport Relief from the East Manchester Leisure Centre.

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles

A variety of exciting new leisure facilities are coming to Selby when Summit Indoor Adventure opens in May. Located in Scott Road, the £5m centre will be managed by leisure provider Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles (formerly Wigan Leisure and Culture Trust, WLCT).

BH Live

BH Live, has agreed a long term lease to operate a former Fitness First club as part of its health and wellbeing expansion strategy across the south of England. BH Live will now operate the centre under the new name BH Live Active, Queen's Park.

 

 

Fusion Lifestyle

Fusion Lifestyle has expanded its leisure portfolio with the opening of Oxford Spires Sport and Fitness. Working with local school Oxford Spires Academy and Oxford City Council, plans for the centre were brought to fruition after a £700,000 investment.

Lincs Inspire

The official opening of the new Grimsby Leisure Centre was held on Saturday 6th February 2016. On the day Lincs Inspire customers enjoyed a whole host of leisure activities for only £2 per activity across all Grimsby Leisure Centre facilities, with £1 from each entry going to the British Heart Foundation. There were also a variety of give-aways to celebrate the occasion!

LiveWire Warrington

LiveWire is launching an exciting new fitness pilot project for women and girls as part of the national This Girl Can campaign. Warrington female residents between the ages of 14-25 are invited to take part in this exciting new scheme where they can get to try out exciting activities such as horse riding, indoor wall climbing, archery and golf as well as tennis, running, trampoline classes and ladies only boxing.

GLL

Better Gym Stratford, located in the heart of East Village in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, has now opened and provides the local community with a no contract, low-cost offering. The £900,000 gym also features a 2,000 sq ft studio offering a range of classes including cardio, aerobics, dance, HIIT, strength, calm, indoor cycling and circuits, a stretch area and changing rooms.

Fife Sports and Leisure Trust

Participants of a specially-designed physical activity class in Fife have become well versed in basketball skills thanks to a friendly rivalry which developed from a strengthening exercise.

Jump shots, dribbling, alley-opp passes are all on display at Duloch Leisure Centre by those attending an Active Options 2 class – most are users of walking aids and wheelchairs, with many suffering from Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

 

 

LiveWire Warrington

LiveWire Warrington has been awarded £302,184 by the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund to install a state-of-the-art third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch (AGP) as part of the Great Sankey Neighbourhood Hub development. The new pitch will be part of the £16 million project to transform the existing Great Sankey Leisure Centre into an integrated facility which provides a one-stop-shop for leisure, health, wellbeing and culture.

Sport Aberdeen

The charity for Scotland’s environment, Keep Scotland Beautiful, has presented Sport Aberdeen with the third highest accreditation available in the National Awards for Environmental Excellence - the Bronze Award. Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Environmental Excellence Award is a new scheme recognizing a company’s achievements in the field of environmental excellence. Sites are graded at Bronze, Silver or Gold Award levels against 67 criteria with a maximum 1000 point score.

GLL

GLL, the UK’s largest public pool provider, has won big at the Amateur Swimming Association National Swimming Awards 2015. The awards – in four separate categories – further cement the charitable social enterprise’s reputation for investing in community sport to make life better.

Circadian Leisure

Bristol Council and sports trust Circadian Leisure are planning a £3.6m transformation of the facilities at the city's Bradley Stoke Leisure Centre.

Inverclyde Leisure

Inverclyde Leisure has boosted swimming lesson participation by more than 44 per cent and related income by a staggering 82 per cent at its Port Glasgow pool.

The impressive increases are part of a company expansion plan by CEO, Kieron Vango, which has also led to a 45 per cent increase in swimming lessons income at The Waterfront Leisure Centre. 

Halo Leisure

Water quality and energy efficiency are both high on the list of priorities for managers of swimming pools around the UK, and Halo Leisure in Herefordshire have discovered a way to improve both, almost overnight. Halo Leisure, a social enterprise and registered charity, manages centres across Herefordshire, Bridgend and Shropshire, and has been the first in the UK to install a new chemical control system which their technical manager says is already delivering results.

 

Jubilee Hall Trust

On Thursday 26 November, Jubilee Hall Trust won the Small Employer of the Year award at the UK Active Awards in Marlow, and on the next day, its Covent Garden gym won Active Place at the Active Westminster Awards! To add to its success, one of its trainers, Chrissie Mullings-Lewis, won the Outstanding Achievement Award.

GLL

More than 600 local residents and extreme sports fans visited the new Extreme Trampoline Park in Barking, East London on 14-15 November. The new 18,000 sq ft park is the third instalment of the Extreme Sports Facility at the Barking Sporthouse and Gym development, which opened earlier this year and is operated by GLL, the charitable social enterprise that runs the facility under its brand name, Better Extreme.

Halo Leisure

Halo Leisure in partnership with Herefordshire Council are delighted to announce today that they're spending an estimated £2.3 million on a refurbishment of the facilities at Ledbury's swimming pool, with work starting next Summer to be completed by April 2017.

East Renfrewshire Culture & Leisure

Work is complete on £270,000 of improvements to the sports area of Barrhead Foundry. The sports hall changing rooms have had a full refurbishment, and new lockers and showers have been installed. The corridor has also been given a makeover with new doors, lighting and paintwork. All areas are now fully open to customers. Deputy Chair of ERCL, Councillor Mary Montague, said: "What a great enhancement to Barrhead Foundry.

Kirklees Active Leisure

Kirklees Active Leisure has just won the ASA's Facility Operator of the Year. KAL, which manages 14 leisure facilities and swimming pools on behalf of Kirklees Council, won the category for operators with up to 22 wet sites. The Amateur Swimming Association (the national governing body of swimming) recognised KAL for its outstanding programmes, performance and partnerships.

LiveWire and Culture Warrington

LiveWire and Culture Warrington have appointed a new joint Managing Director following the announcement of the retirement of current MD, Jan Souness. Emma Hutchinson has been chosen by the two organisation's boards to lead and direct the neighbourhood wellbeing and cultural organisations following an internal appointment process. Emma, who is currently covering the role of Cultural Director at Culture Warrington, will take up the new post in February 2016 when Jan steps down.

Active Luton

Active Luton has celebrated 10 years of running sports and leisure facilities and programmes for the residents of Luton. A special event was held to mark the occasion at Inspire: Luton Sports Village, the world class leisure centre operated by the trust, where its trustees, funders, partners, suppliers and staff all came together to reflect on their achievements.

Fusion Lifestyle and GLL

Sporta members Fusion Lifestyle and GLL recently hosted the launch of Historic Pools of Britain, a new association set up to support the protection and restoration of the nation's heritage swimming baths and lidos. The event took place at Fusion's Golden Lane Sport & Fitness, a notable listed swimming pool built as part of a council housing complex in 1962, and delegates also visited GLL's listed Ironmonger Row Baths, which was built in 1931 and underwent a full refurbishment in 2012.

LiveWire Warrington

LiveWire is investing more than £1 million to install state-of-the-art equipment into four of its gyms across Warrington.
Broomfields Leisure Centre, Birchwood Tennis and Leisure Complex, Woolston Neighbourhood Hub and Culcheth Community Campus will all be given a revamp in time for the New Year.

Falkirk Community Trust opened the doors of a brand new gym to the people of the Falkirk area on Friday 25 September at 6.30am. The custom-designed gym located in the heart of Stenhousemuir town centre is an expansion of their existing health and fitness services and three specific gyms across the Falkirk area – covering Grangemouth, Camelon and Bo'ness, which have seen significant membership and income growth since the Trust's inception in July 2011.

Stuart Martin, who has spent the last 4 years working as part of the charity's Senior Team in the Group Commercial Manager role, has already played a key part in the development of the charity leading its product development and exercise experience, but now as Managing Director has a great opportunity to lead the charity towards its ambition of growth.

Jubilee Hall Trust

On Saturday 19 September, almost 200 people took part in the two inaugural Jubilee Hall Trust (JHT) outdoor run events on Hampstead Heath. The main 10k Trail Run wound its way across the hills (oh the hills!) and dales of the park, on a beautiful sunny day and featured runners of all abilities including JHT's own Chairman, Steve Cabrera, who completed his first 10k in over 10 years.

North Country Leisure

An official opening, marking the completion of a £3 million project to transform Eldon Leisure in the centre of Newcastle, has taken place, following the public opening of all facilities in late June 2015.The works were completed in just over six months and included a brand new eight lane tenpin bowling centre and fully licensed café bar, state of the art new fitness gym and studios, indoor Vertigo Adventure Climbing Arena and Jungle Jack's Adventure Soft Play Area with adjoining café. Eldon Leisure, situated in INTU Eldon Square Shopping Centre is managed by local charity North Country Leisure (NCL), part of the GLL group.

Sandwell Leisure Trust

A unique Sandwell Leisure Trust (SLT) project, inspired by the 2014 Commonwealth Games, has smashed expectations with nearly 800 non-active residents taking part and almost 8,000 new attendances recorded. Funded by Sport England and part of SPORTA's Make Your Move initiative, the SLT 'Games Project' successfully targeted non-active residents age 14+to participate in at least one half hour session each week (from rugby, women's boxing, pilates, weightlifting, netball, basketball, badminton, table tennis and group fitness classes for the over 50s) over a six month period.

Northampton Leisure Trust

Northampton Leisure Trust is pleased to announce the acquisition of Berzerk Leisure Ltd, the children's activity centre in Moulton Park, Northampton for an undisclosed sum. The purchase will enhance the Trust's offering of children's activities through the Berzerk soft play facility. Berzerk is a strong strategic fit with the Trust with a like-minded goal of providing excellent customer focussed service through continuous improvement.
