After a successful and engaging first event in Bournemouth last year, Sporta is to hold its second awards ceremony in 2017. Held at the historic Ballroom at Sheffield City Hall, the event will take place alongside the Sporta AGM on Wednesday 17th May. The ceremony will again showcase the achievements of leisure and culture trusts, and the positive contribution made by Sporta members to the health and wellbeing of local communites throughout the UK. Over 12 categories, the awards aim to highlight the broad range of capabilties and innovative projects provided by trusts, giving all members the opportunity to highlight one or more areas of their organisation's work. They include recognition for: Engaging Inactive People, Successful Partnerships, Social Enteprise Improvement and Workforce Development. Applications for the awards are now open, with the deadline for all entries being 5.00pm on Friday  3rd March 2017. Sporta will again promote all entries as part of wider efforts to champion the trust model. Full details can be found at the awards section of the Sporta website. Sporta Member Jubilee Hall Trust has announced that they have been awarded a new contract to manage the Westminster Gym in the Houses of Parliament. Jubilee Hall Trust have been delivering the existing gym and wellbeing service contract since 1999. In that time, Jubilee Hall Trust has grown gym membership, increased the range and quality of services and received excellent feedback. In the last user survey, 100% of gym members said that the staff service was good or excellent. Jubilee Hall Chief Executive, Phil Rumbelow said: "We are very pleased that the Parliamentary Authority has seen fit to offer us a renewal of our contract. We are a small operator in a highly competitive central London market, and we know that they had many other organisations bidding for this prestigious opportunity. We have always believed passionately in the important need for the two Houses’ Members, Peers and employees to have a facility for physical activity and a service for wellbeing, and our exceptional staff team have been delivering this to a very high standard for some time."

Sporta members, partners and friends came together on 6th December for the final conference of the Make Your Move programme. The event was held at Sheffield City Hall, one of a number of venues managed by Sporta member Sheffield City Trust. Over three years, the Sport England lottery funded programme has supported 46 projects across England, helping to engage inactive communities in physical activity. The programme has attracted over 24,000 participants, with over 90% of respondents maintaining activity levels six months after intervention.
The day focussed on three main themes - understanding participants, effective partnerships, and the trust model – which compliment some of the overall themes to emerge from the programme. Discussion groups and workshops were held, giving attendees the chance to interact and share experiences.

Sporta's next General Meeting will take place in London on Wednesday 8th February 2017. The venue for the meeting is confirmed as the Royal Over-Seas League.
