National Obesity Awareness Week runs from 13th - 19th January. It is predicted that more than half of the UK population are heading for obesity by 2050 at a cost of almost £50 billion (Tackling Obesities: Future Choices, Foresight 2007). Sporta members are running a number of programmes aimed at tackling the problem of obesity and encouraging simple lifestyle changes. Held at Fusion's Camberwell Leisure Centre, breakfast was served throughout the morning of celebration. Held on Social Enterprise Day, our guest speakers included Baroness Thornton and Professor Ken Fox, Steven Chaytor and Phil Rumbelow - and importantly from the three successful pilot Trusts. The three Pilot Projects were announced as Bolton Middlebrook Leisure Trust delivering Step2action; Fusion Lifestyle delivering the Friday Night Project; and Life Leisure delivering ActiSPORT.
