Sporta's next General Meeting will be held at the MacDonald Burlington Hotel, Birmingham on 1st October 2014. Hannah White will be a guest speaker at the morning session. Further information about the full programme will be available soon.
Sporta held it's first Public Health Conference on 14th May in London. More than 40 trusts were in attendance to discuss the role of leisure and cultural trusts in commissioning for public health. Speakers on the day included Dr Justin Varney, Dr Andrew Howe, Elaine McNish and Dr William Bird. The event, chaired by Dr Cindy Brook, included workshops which explored Mental Health and Wellbeing, Dementia and Physical Activity. The conference provided a great opportunity to consider how leisure trusts can develop and engage effectively with Health and Wellbeing Boards, Clinical Commissioning Groups and directors of public health. Sporta enjoyed a successful Annual General Meeting on May 8th in Edinburgh. Guest speakers included Ed Smith and Scott Johnson and presentations were made by South Lanarkshire Leisure and High Life Highland. During the event, new executive members were elected. Steve Brailey will be the new representative for North East and Yorkshire region and Ian Morton for Central region. Other executive members remian the same.
